@സുജ ടീച്ചര്‍,

@അരുണ്‍,

@സുനില്‍ സാര്‍,

Anonymous January 7, 2010 at 8:32 PM

Sir how we solve the 59th question in 100 question u put???

Anonymous January 7, 2010 at 10:51 PM

DEAR SEBIN SIR
SUPPOSE B ALONE TAKES x DAYS TO DO THE WORK COLPMPLETELY
A takes x-6 days
A can do 1/(x-6) part of the work in a day
B can take 1/x part of the work in a day
A's 1 day work+B's 1 day work = (1/x)+(1/x-6)
1/x + 1/x-6 = 1/4
solve
Ans
x=6 and 12
admissible value of x is 12

Dear Murali sir
Q No 86
pie*r*l = 550
22/7 * r* root( r^2+576) = 550
r* root( r^2+576)= 550*7/22
r^2(r^2+576)= 175*175
we get a 4 th degree
put r^2 =x we get Q E
on solving x= 49
r=7

The basket ball problem:

It is the case of an infinite geometric series that converges.

10/(1-r) = 35

(because that is the distance it travels downwards)

r = 1 - (10/35) = 5/7.

Every time, the ball rises to (5/7)th of the previous height. That is, 6/7 * 100 = 71.43%.

Umesh::ഉമേഷ് January 13, 2010 at 11:24 AM

Read the last line as

5/7 * 100 = 71.43%.

Umesh::ഉമേഷ് January 13, 2010 at 11:31 AM

Answer to the locker problem:

Lockers with number as a perfect square (1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100) will be open. The rest will be closed.

This is same as the bulb problem asked before. Please see chapter 6 of this document for a detailed discussion.

Umesh::ഉമേഷ് January 13, 2010 at 11:54 AM

A correction to solution to the basketball problem.

The first time, it falls 10 feet. From second time onwards, it falls the same amount as it rises. So, the total distance it goes down is 10 + (70 - 10)/2 = 40 feet. Assume every time it falls r times the fall in the previous time. (r < 1). So,

10 / (1 - r) = 40

r = 1 - (10/40) = 3/4.

So, r = 75%. Bhama teacher is right.

@john sir,regarding qn 10.
is it easy to find and prove the sum of (m+n)terms is '-(m+n)' if the sum of' m' terms is 'n' and 'm' terms is 'n'?
for example the sum of 10 terms in an AP is 20.SUM OF 20 TERMS IN AP IS 10.what will be sum of 30 terms ?
is it -30?
shall i expect a kind reply?

JOHN P A February 2, 2010 at 7:15 PM

@Reshma

sum of 10 terms = 20
10/2 [ 2a+9d]=20
2a+9d=4 ..........(1)
20/2[2a+19d]=10
2a+19d=1...........(2)
(2)– (1) gives
10d = -3
d= -3/10
Applying in any equation
a= 67/20
sum of 30 terms= 30/2 [ 2a+29d]
= 30/2[ 2* 67/20 + 29* -3/10]
= 15 * [ 67/10- 87/10]
= 15 *-20/10
-30 = -( 20+10)
