ഇനി വിഷയത്തിലേക്ക് കടക്കാം. റൂട്ട് പാസ്വേഡ് മറന്നു പോയി, റൂട്ട് ആയി ലോഗിന്‍ ചെയ്യാനാകുന്നില്ല എന്ന പരാതിയുമായി പലരും ഞങ്ങളെ വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഈ പ്രശ്നത്തിനുള്ള പരിഹാരവുമായാണ് ഈ പോസ്റ്റിന്റെ വരവ്. റൂട്ട് പാസ്വേഡ് തന്നെ നമുക്ക് മാറ്റിക്കളയാം. എന്താ റെഡിയല്ലേ? ഈ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ അയച്ചു തന്നത് എറണാകുളത്തെ പ്രമുഖ ലിനക്സ് - ഫോസ് കണ്‍സള്‍ട്ടന്റ് ആയ ശ്രീനാഥ്.
പ്രശ്നം
റൂട്ട് പാസ്വേഡ് അറിയില്ല. അതു കൊണ്ടുതന്നെ റൂട്ടായി ലോഗിന്‍ ചെയ്യാനോ മറ്റ് പാക്കേജുകള്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ക്കാനോ കഴിയുന്നില്ല. ഈ ഘട്ടത്തില്‍ എങ്ങനെ റൂട്ട് പാസ്വേഡ് മാറ്റാം?
പരിഹാരം
സിസ്റ്റം ബൂട്ട് ചെയ്യുക. അപ്പോള്‍ വരുന്ന ബൂട്ട് മെനുവിലെ Single user ആരോ കീ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് സെലക്ട് ചെയ്യുക. തുടര്‍ന്ന് എഡിറ്റ് ചെയ്യാനായി കീ ബോഡിലെ e എന്ന ലറ്റര്‍ കീ അമര്‍ത്തുക. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കാണുന്ന വിന്റോയിലെ കെര്‍ണല്‍ എന്ന ലൈനില്‍ വെച്ചും e എന്ന കീ അമര്‍ത്തുക. അടുത്ത സ്റ്റെപ്പില്‍ കെര്‍ണല്‍ ലൈനിന്റെ ഒപ്പമുള്ള ro single എന്ന ഭാഗം മാറ്റി rw init=/bin/sh എന്ന് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്ത് ചേര്‍ത്ത് Enter Key അടിക്കുക. ബൂട്ട് ചെയ്യാനായി b എന്ന കീ പ്രസ് ചെയ്യുക. അവിടെ Passwd എന്ന് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുക. (ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക Password അല്ല Passwd എന്നു തന്നെയാണ് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്.). പുതിയ പാസ്വേഡ് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുക. ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തുന്നതിനായി ഒരു വട്ടം കൂടി പുതിയ പാസ്വേഡ് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്ത് കൊടുക്കേണ്ടി വരും. . അത് കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ reboot എന്ന് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്ത് Enter അടിക്കുക.. സിസ്റ്റ് റീബൂട്ട് ചെയ്ത് വരുന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് പുതിയ റൂട്ട് പാസ്വേഡ് ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ലോഗിന്‍ ചെയ്യാം..
അടിക്കുറിപ്പ്: ഇന്റര്‍ നെറ്റും മറ്റുവര്‍ക്കുകളുമെല്ലാം ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ കഴിവതും റൂട്ടായി ലോഗിന്‍ ചെയ്യാതെ യൂസര്‍ ആയി പ്രവേശിക്കുമല്ലോ. നാളിതുവരെ യാതൊരു പ്രശ്നങ്ങളും ലിനക്സ് യൂസേഴ്സിന് വന്നിട്ടില്ലെങ്കിലും ഒരു മുന്‍കരുതലിനാണിത്.

Thank you very much.I have another problem. New exam C D cannot be installed in 3.8.1 Is there any remedy?
Dear Sir,
The reason may be the package for 3.8.1 (I'm not sure, as I didn't see the CD yet!) may not be there!SGL 3.8.1 is not yet officially released, even though, in Hardware Clinics, Keletron Staff installed it in many systems!
Its available for download also.Since, 3.8.1 uses Debian Lenny, separate package is needed other than 3.2 (Debian etch).
I'd pointed out two weeks before the need of 3.8.1 package for exam to the authorities, but by that time, the CD's may be already prepared.
The idea of changing the root password is shocking...!
If anybody can change the administrative password, then what is the so called'high security' in Linux?

ഹൈ സെക്യൂരിറ്റി വേണമെന്നുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍, ഗ്രബ്ബില്‍ പാസ്സ്വേഡ് എന്‍ക്രിപ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യാനും (എഡിറ്റ് ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കാന്‍)അത് മാസ്ക് ചെയ്യാനും കഴിയും!
വേണമെങ്കില്‍ അതൊരു പോസ്റ്റാക്കി ഇടാം.

@സലീല്‍, നമ്മുടെ വീടിന്റെ താക്കോല്‍ മോഷ്ടാവിന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ കൊടുത്താല്‍ എന്തായിരിക്കും സ്ഥിതി? അതുപോലെ തന്നെയാണ് നമ്മുടെ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിന്റെ കാര്യവും. മോഷ്ടാവിനു കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിന്റെ അടുത്ത് എത്തുവാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ പിന്നെ എന്ത് സുരക്ഷിതത്വമാണ് ഉള്ളത്. പിന്നെ "കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര്‍ സുരക്ഷ" എന്ന് പറയുന്നത് നമ്മുടെ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര്‍ നമ്മളറിയാതെ വിദൂര സ്ഥലങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് കൊണ്ട് മറ്റൊരാള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് തടയുക എന്നതാണ്.
സ്വതന്ത്രമല്ലാത്ത ഓപറേറ്റിങ്ങ്‌ സിസ്റ്റംങ്ങളില്‍ ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള കുഴപ്പമുണ്ടോയെന്നു അത് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയവര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമേ പറയാന്‍ കഴിയുകയുള്ളൂ. അവരെ കൂടാതെ ഇത് മനസിലാക്കുന്നവരില്‍ ചിലരാണ് വൈറസ് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ സ്വതത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയര്‍ അതിന്റെ സ്രോതസ് ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ അതിന്റെ കുഴപ്പങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും പെട്ടെന്ന് അറിയുവാന്‍ കഴിയുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഇതില്‍ വൈറസ് ഉണ്ടാവാത്തത്. അഥവാ ഉണ്ടായാല്‍ അത് എല്ലായിടത്തും എത്താത്തത്.

പതിപ്പാണ്‌? 3.2 ആണെങ്കില്‍ ആദ്യം ctrl alt F1 അമര്‍ത്തുക. എന്നിട്ട് "റൂട്ട്" ആയി കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറില്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg എന്ന കമാന്‍ഡ് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്തതിനു ശേഷം എന്റര്‍ കീ അമര്‍ത്തുക. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ലഭിക്കുന്ന ചോദ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മറുപടി കൊടുത്തതിനു ശേഷം /etc/init.d/gdm restart എന്ന കമാന്‍ഡ് കൊടുക്കുക.
ഇനി ൩.൮.൧ (3.8.1) ആണെങ്കില്‍ ctrl alt f1 അമര്‍ത്തുക. എന്നിട്ട് "റൂട്ട് " ആയി കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറില്‍ പ്രവേശിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം /etc/init.d/gdm stop എന്ന കമാന്‍ഡ് കൊടുക്കുക. തുടര്‍ന്ന് താഴെ കാണുന്ന കമാന്‍ഡുകള്‍ കൊടുക്കുക.
1. X -configure
2. cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
3. /etc/init.d/gdm start
I've checked the exam CD just now and found the package for 3.8 separate there!
There is a folder named 'Exam files 3.8' and a separate help file showing how to install it.

Contents of the Distribution
itexam-6.0-itschool-3.8 Corresponds to version 6 of IT@School Practical
Examination software (Release year 2009).
Installation
Before installation of the itexamitschool software, remove the folders Documents,
Images8, Images9, Images10, exam8, exam9, exam10 from the home directory .
Installing the software
Copy the folder install_files _ITExam3.8 and its content from the examination
software CD to your home folder
Open a terminal by right clicking the area around the copied files and choose open
terminal form the option (see the figure below)
opening terminal by right clicking
OR double click the install.sh file and choose open in a terminal
OR open a terminal from Application ->Accessories->Terminal and change the
directory to copied folder
the folder contain a file called install.sh, if the file does not have execute file
permision give the permision by typing the command chmod 777 install.sh
or right click the file and select properies option give execute permission from the
permissions tab
type ./install.sh it will install the examination software
It will ask the root password , type the password and press enter , it will install the
examination software
I installed School Linux 3.8.1 in my System.I hope it is just a copy of Debian 5.0.Thanks for Debian team and again thanks for http://www.debian.org
yes Nizar sir.I just put the CD as usaual and tried to install it as in other versions.I will go through it on monday. If any problem comes I shall call you . I have inslalled exams in 12 systems and exams in one divisions are completed today
3.8 download ചെയ്തു. 3.2 ആണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്. 3.2 നെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് 3.8 നു എന്തെങ്കിലും മെച്ചം ഉണ്ടോ?

Look at the down load section of this blog
you can see 3.8.1 there ( 32 th downnload)
3.8 is not given in IT @ school site.
I think your com is provided from hard ware clinic' The only installable version is 3'8
the procedure is exactly same . At a stage we have to select all packages by down arrow and space bar
note that 3.8.1 is a DVD
If you contact your school at ALUVa you will get Disc from SITC

ഞാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചതു കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ തുറന്നുവരുമ്പോൾ ഏതു ഓപ്പറേറ്റിങ് സിസ്റ്റം സെലക്ഷൻ ആകണം തുടങ്ങിയ കാര്യങ്ങൾ മാനേജ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിനു വേണ്ടിയുള്ള start up manager 3.8 ൽ ഇല്ല എന്ന കാര്യമാണ്.
പ്രശ്നം പരിഹരിച്ചു. 3.2 ൽ നിന്ന് SPM ഉപയോഗിച്ച് start up manager install ചെയ്തു.

ഞാൻ windows xp യും IT@school Linux 3.8 ഉം കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റാൾ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇന്റർനെറ്റിനു വേണ്ടി BSNL WLL connection (dial up) Clarity-II A ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. Windows ല് ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് കിട്ടുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ Linux ല് കിട്ടുന്നില്ല. എന്തെങ്കിലും വഴിയുണ്ടോ? Linux ല് കിട്ടിയിരുന്നെങ്കില് വൈറസ് ബാധ ഭയക്കണ്ടായിരുന്നു…..

Open a root terminal and execute the command:
* wvdialconf
then open the /etc/wvdial.conf file and change the following values:
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = AT+CRM=1
Flow Control = Hardware (CRTSCTS)
stupid mode = 1
Modem Type = USB Modem
ISDN = 0
New PPPD = yes
Phone = #777
Username = internet
Password = internet
Baud = 115200
then execute the command wvdial to connect to the internet. (Make sure you have privilage to access modem if you want to connect to the net as normal user. Check that at Desktop -> Administration -> Users and Groups; Double click on the username; check the User Privilages tab)
