to find the median from a frequency table it is very difficult to use the method of AP. to find the first term is most difficult being fractions. So we can use another way. Eg. in solved question on page 243(STD 10 maths text) the mid point of 23rd boy represent the height 145 + nine and a half of 5/12. So the median is 145 + 19/2 x 5/12 = 145 + 95/25 = 148.9. here there are no more fractions to frighten.
also in the solved question page 246
median is average of 34th and 35th values. 34th value is mid of 8th and 35th is mid of 9th and clearly their average is the upper limit of 8th value when we think of the fig. so to calculate, median= 40 + 8 x 5/20 =40 + 40/20 = 40+2=42.
