ReplyDeleteWhile I was solving some questions from Orukkam [Unit -8- Tangents], noticed that there is an error in data's given for activities 2 & 3. Please note that there is a relation connecting sides of a triangle and its inradius. It is not possible to construct those two figures with the given measurement.
ReplyDeleteIn activity 2, IF OA=5, OB=4 and OQ=3 & OQ perpendicular to AB, Then OC cannot be 6 [ it will be an irrational number]
also in activity 3, the same mistake occurred, If inradius is 2, and angles are 45 and 60 degrees,
OP cannot be 6.
I request john sir/ vinod sir or other math blog team members to report to SCERT after cross checking it.

Time as 4 Hours and 30 minutes instead of 4 Hours and 3 minutes. ( Questions may have printing mistakes !!! )
Resulting Speed of the boat = 15 - x and for downwards it is 15 + x.
taking Time = Distance/Speed
I get 30/(15 - x ) + 30/(15 + x) = 4.5
i.e. (15 - x + 15 + x)/(225-x^2) = 4.5/30
=> 900 = 4.5*225 - 4.5 x^2
Therefore 4.5 x^2 = 1012.5 - 900
= 112.5
Therefore x^2 = 25
x = 5 km/h

If x is the speed of stream and given that 15 km/ hour is the speed of boat in still water,
Net speed in upward direction: 15-x and net speed in downward direction: 15+x
30/(15+x) + 30/(15-x) = 81/20
implies 900/(225-x^2) = 81/20 , implies 9x^2= 9X225- 2000
simplified to 9x^2 = 25
x^2= 25/9
x= 5/3 km/hr [ Reject -5/3 ]

also 1/2 xy= 6 or -6 implies xy= 12 or -12 [ area is given as 6 , xy can be equal to 12or -12]
since sqrt of (x^2 +y^2) = 5
implies x^2 +y^2 =25
using quadratic formula or method of inspection we get
when x= 3 , y= 4 or x=3 , y=- 4 or x= -3 , y=-4 or x= -3 , y =4
also x= 4, y =3 or x= 4, y=-3 or x= -4, y = 3, x=-4, y= -3
since no other condition is given about the line AB, I think we have to consider all the above possibilities.
Case 1: AB is in first quadrant
If A (4,0 ) then B (0,3) gradient or slop of AB = -3/4, Equation of AB is 3x+4y =12
If A is ( 3,0) then B (0,4) , gradient or slope of AB= -4/3 , Equation of AB is 4x+3y =12
Similarly find the equation of lines in other three cases
other possible equations of AB are 3x-4y+12 =0, 4x-3y +12=0, 3x+4y +12=0, 4x+3y +12 =0,
3x-4y-12=0, 4x-3y-12=0.
I think there should be a condition, in which quadrant AB lies.
